Weekends

I miss the morning lie-ins

The lazy coffees and cuddles as the sun rises

I miss the time to ourselves and walks along the river

I miss the evenings out and the logistical simplicity

I miss "just one more episode" because it doesn't matter that it's late

Now it's early rises and beating the sun

It's first football classes as the day has barely begun

It's squeezing in a shower amongst the toys and books

It's giving each other patience and saying "I love you" with looks

It's a freezing cold day but you're still mad for the slide

It's being at yet another farm and taking you for a tractor ride

It's a fleeting thought of "I miss our weekends"

Deep down I know I don't want this to end

So feed the farmyard animals hay from the ground

And dance joyously at Ms Rachel's sound

We'll be here taking you to and fro

Those people having lie-ins… they'll never know.
